It came in slow at first. Bump ... bump, bump, bump. Bump ... bump, bump, bump.

Not my usual alarm beep. And I hadn’t visited my dream date either. Maybe I was still dreaming. But why was I hearing rap music in my sleep? I barely listened to the stuff.

I opened one eye and was startled. I wasn’t dreaming. It was morning. From the strange noises in between beats, I knew I was hearing a Timbaland song.

What the fuck was going on? I opened both eyes.

Oh, shit. Max.

I remembered fleeing the rain and eating popcorn during an old movie before falling asleep.

I was lying atop him on his couch. He was still asleep. My head was on his chest and he had one arm around me, while the other hung down onto the floor in an awkward position. I began looking around, trying to figure out where the music was coming from. The walls were vibrating.

My movement awoke Max from his slumber. He stirred and said, “Good morning, beautiful.” That smile of his was showing.

“Hey.” I pulled myself closer and kissed him.

Instinct. No thought.

Max, while caught off guard, responded favorably. Our eyes closed as we used our tongues, guiding each other in sensuous circles. I put aside any guilt over Lionel, instead focusing on how electric this felt. Morning breath was never so good as it was now. We continued kissing as we sat upright on the couch where I straddled him, pulling his head into my chest. I ground into his crotch, giving him a morning lap dance. As his face nuzzled deeper, he reached up and unbuttoned my shirt.

Correction. His shirt.

I wore his property while wanting to be owned by him as well. As I wore his shirt, I wanted him to ... wear ... me ... out.

The only thing wrong was that damn music that kept pounding through the walls. Who was doing that so early? I worked my hips harder, determined to ignore it, as Max’s morning bulge rose with the sun to say good morning against my clit. Then it happened.

At first I didn’t make it out. Couldn’t over the music, but when the volume dropped, I heard it again. It was a phone.

My cell phone.

It was in my tote bag and ringing. I blinked my eyes and looked toward Max’s bedroom, where my bag was. It was ironic, as I wanted to go to the bedroom, but not to answer a fucking phone. The music had stopped. I looked back down at Max, noticing the serious look on his face. He brought his hands back down to his sides.

“What time is it?” I asked nervously.

“You need to get that, right?” he asked, disgusted.

“Yeah, I guess I do.”

He let out a long breath, biting his lip from whatever he had to say. I ran my hands through my matted hair and climbed off him. I already knew who was calling.

“Hello?” I hurriedly pulled my cell from the bag, but tried to sound normal.

“Hey, baby! Where you been? I’ve been trying to reach you since yesterday.
